5 Mistakes We Make as Homeowners
As homeowners we pride ourselves on how well we take care of our homes. But there are some very important things that some of us tend to forget.
1. FORGETTING TO CHANGE FILTERS
Furnace filters are one of your biggest defenses when preventing dirt, dust and allergens from circulating in your home. Yet most of us don't change our furnace filters often enough. Your furnace filter should be change every 2 to 3 months and sooner if you have pets. When you replace your filters regularly it will help cut down on energy costs by allowing your furnace to work more efficiently, prolong the life of your furnace and more importantly give you a healthier indoor air quality.
3. IGONORING GUTTERS
Clogged gutters can wreak havoc on your home, causing overflowing gutters in summer and ice dams in winter. Water and ice can cause damage to your roof, exteriors walls and even cause leaks inside interior of your home.
4. DISREGARDING DETECTORS
Your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors can be what stands between you and a devastating disaster. Be sure to inspect your detectors regularly and change the batteries seasonally.
5. OVERLOOKNIG OVERGROWTH
Overgrown tree branches can cause damage to roofs, siding, decks and fences. Did you also know that overgrown vines and creepers can grow underneath your siding and loosen your foundation, and can also damage mortar and brick work?
